Educational Journey
Sümeyye's educational journey took her from her hometown of Bursa to the United States, where she pursued her passion for child development and psychology. She completed her undergraduate studies in Early Childhood Education and gained practical experience through internships at various schools. Afterward, she established her own daycare center.
Continual Learning
During her time in the United States, Sümeyye continued her education, specializing in psychology, at prestigious institutions such as the University of New Mexico and Rochester Institute of Technology.
Expertise in Child Education
Sümeyye also contributed to the field of child education by writing articles for Turkish-speaking mothers on her website, annelik.org, collaborating with experts in the field for nine years.
Advanced Studies
Upon settling in Pittsburgh, Sümeyye pursued her studies in Applied Developmental Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. She excelled in her coursework and completed her master's degree.
Research and Practice
Throughout her studies, she engaged in practical work with various age groups and adolescent mothers in diverse educational settings. She contributed to scientific research projects and gained experience in areas such as preschool education, school preparation, child assessments, neurodevelopmental disorders, and play therapy. Her involvement extended to the "Office of Child Development" research office, where she continued to work on projects.
Returning to Turkey
After a 15-year educational journey in the United States, Sümeyye returned to Turkey with her family.
Current Endeavors
In 2020, she commenced her Clinical Psychology integrated PhD program at Ibn Haldun University, where she is currently at the thesis stage. She actively sees clients at Ibn Haldun University's Psychotherapy and Research Center (IPAM).
Therapeutic Approach
Sümeyye employs a range of therapeutic methods in her sessions, including Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Child-Centered Play Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Client-Centered Services
She provides face-to-face sessions in Istanbul and remote sessions for clients wherever there is an internet connection. Her expertise spans child, adolescent, adult, and couple therapy in both Turkish and English.
